Unconventionally excellent Tarot cards in a neat red box, a facsimile of the original 1969 series, by American visual artist Dorothy Iannone. Iannone is known for her bold, autobiographical works exploring eroticism, female sexuality, and what she called “ecstatic unity.” Celebrated for pioneering sexual and artistic emancipation, she exhibited internationally, with major retrospectives honouring her contribution to post-war art.
This series of 27 double-sided full colour illustrated cards depicts the life of the artist Dieter Roth, Dorothy Iannone’s lover and muse, in the early period of their relationship.
Between 1968 and 1969, Iannone worked on the series of Tarot cards while they living together in Düsseldorf where Dieter was professor at the Kunstakademie. The original drawings, in Iannone's typically brilliant erotic style, were censored during the exhibition 'Friends' curated by Harald Szeemann at the Kunsthalle Bern in 1969.
