German photographer Jochen Lempert initially studied as a biologist until he took up photography in the 1990's as a way of deepening and expanding upon his fascination with nature, plants and animals. His new book 'Pairs' is a carefully gathered sequence of his pictures and is becomes an artful and meditative way of thinking about similarities and differences.
Since the 1990s, Jochen Lempert has used the book itself as a classic medium for conveying knowledge, narration, and visual experiments. This wonderfully quiet but expansive book is a glowing example of his gentle craft in photography, ecology and books.
Includes a fold out poster and an essay by Portikus Gallery director Yasmil Raymond, where these photographs were recently exhibited.
