Sorties first issue explores how images of women are historically shaped by a male-dominated gaze that positions them as objects of desire.
Sorties is a sharply designed and curated bulletin of gendered symbols and iconography, a sequence images and words presented to make the reader think twice, look again and reassess. An exhibition inside a book, an accumulation of images perverted, subverted and sullied by masculine desire, giving an overwhelming sense of our history and visual environment as entirely saturated by patriarchal objectification.
This is not a morose or bleak exercise, but a reclaimation, a regathering, a corrective of joy and art.
