American Surfaces was shot on a road trip across America in 1972-73 and documents the everyday in bright, vivid colour. It is now considered a classic of documentary and colour photography.
Originally published by Phaidon Press in 2005, as a 320 image edit in the sequence that they were shot in, this revised and expanded 2020 edition includes additional pictures and an essay by Teju Cole.
